To begin with something is difficult, and also it's for guitarplaying. It's nice to have someone in the family, or a friend to teach you, otherwise you've to buy a course, or follow lessons, or as these days there are magazines with cd / cdrom included, to practise with Hifi set or computer.
You should begin with a cheap guitar, the strings are a lot higher above the fingerboard than an expensive guitar, but the advantage in this is, that your fingers get used to it, aswell solo- or rhythmguitar, and lateron you can play an expensive guitar mucht better. Take classes in course, or take lessons, and practise daily one hour minimum. When it's going better, make a practising schedule, inwhich various kinds of music and fingerpicking technics and repeats it regular. After some time playing will be better . . . . .
I myself did the practising in the 1960's with a Klavarmusica course of Klavarscribo. A very good course with excel- lent accompaniment, in guitar- diagrams and sheetmusic. After that in playing music to- gether with a taperecorder and following it. Also buying books about the chorddiagrams, learning how to play the bass, tips and trics, as THE EGG OF CO was one of the things, you did . . . . .
Het Ei van Co
Ilja Croon
Basart Music NV.
When after some time you did play the guitar better, than the mu- sic of the Shadows was all the way. In the 1960's it was the most mu- sical band there was. There also were many musicbooks for this kind of guitarplaying.
The books above were found back after many years in my lumber- room and attic. Ilja Croon is a stranger in this chapter, but at the end I did play the bassguitar as well. The clearly filling heavy sound of a bass did fascinate me, again and again . . . . .
The Egg of Co was written by Co Atpress of The Down Town Jazz Band and there also was a revolving disc belonging to the book, but unfortunately it has been lost. In the book, a collectors item now, are many tips and trics for guitars and translations to other music instruments.
Still The Shadows were not the only guitargroup, there were many other groups/bands following in The Shadows track, such as: TheTornado's, The Spotnicks, The Riats, Johnny & The Hurricanes, The Jumping Jewels, Johnny & His Cellar Rockets and many others.
A new sound and also a new generation. A happening, which turns the world to it's end . . . . .
Inumarable groups / bands were copying this sound in the UK: The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds (birthplace of Eric Clapton), The Kinks, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Tremeloes, The Honeycomb, The Hollies, The Animals, The Swinging Bluejeans, The Fortunes, Them (Van Morrison), Direstraits (Mark Knopfler), eo.
In Holland we got: The Outsiders, Q65, The Motions, The Bintangs (still existing), The Sandy Coast, The Teeset, The Golden Earrings (still existing), Bzn, The Cats, After Tea, Leftside, George Baker Se- lection, Les Baroques, The Shoes, eo.
World's best guitarplayers came out of these bands:
Eric Clapton
Mark Knopfler
Jan Akkerman
Jeff Beck
The music these days owns the sound and how to play to groups, such as The beatles and The Rolling Stones together with the other guitarists mentioned above. In one word The Beatles and The Rolling Stones are THE BANDS of the 20th century. The Stones still are together, but with a small changing in the group and The Beatles splitted in 1970's officially and it was NOT the fault of John Lennon, as rumors were told, but Paul McCartney, and it's pointing to an other manager, the follow up for Brian Epstein (died in 1967).
Paul McCartney of The Beatles became the biggest of all (some- how not fair against John Lennon, murdered in December 1980 by Mark Chapman, but missing the growing as an artist between 1980 - 2001, inwhich Paul McCartney has the advantage from all things) and finally won the title of Millennium Componist of the 20th Century.
Then in 1962 there's a revolution in musical entertainement. Four boys from Liverpool introduces a new sound:
